Manufacturer supports forklift safety initiatives in Washington and trains more than 50 operators at factory-owned dealerships
CHICAGO – August 2016 – UniCarriers Americas Corporation (UCA) participated in the third annual National Forklift Safety Day.
UCA, which supports safe use of all lift trucks year round, was represented in Washington D.C. by James J. Radous III, president of UCA, who also served as the 2016 National Forklift Safety Day chairman. UCA supported the Industrial Truck Association’s (ITA) request for OSHA to update forklift safety regulations from the 1969 version of standards to the latest consensus. OSHA, which has a long relationship with ITA responded positively to the request at the June 14 event in Washington.
In honor of National Forklift Safety Day, the company once again provided free operator training and recertification courses at factory-owned stores, Capital Equipment and Handling, headquartered in Hartland, Wis., and New England Industrial Truck, headquartered in Woburn, Mass. Through courses at five of UniCarriers Americas Factory Store locations, 51 forklift operators received comprehensive training. This is more than double the number who received training for National Forklift Safety Day last year.
“It was my honor to serve as the chairman for this year’s National Forklift Safety Day. The purpose of the event is to reduce forklift accidents and to improve operator training,” said Radous. “We want organizations to focus on safety every day, not just on National Forklift Safety Day, but it's good to have a special day to highlight the issue. We're not just discussing this among ourselves within the industry. We also talk to national policymakers, and we were successful in getting a number of states to pass National Forklift Safety Day resolutions.”
