UCA and its employees work with Make-A-Wish® Illinois to send a very special child and his family on a very special trip.
MARENGO, IL — May 2017 — The newest member of the UniCarriers Forklift family is just four years old…an engaging youngster who was introduced to the company and its employees through the Make-A-Wish Illinois.
Monty, 5, of McHenry has a congenital, life-threatening heart condition, a winning smile and a heartfelt wish that’s come true — a dream vacation to Hawaii with his family.
Thanks in part to fundraising events by UCA employees including bake sales, chili cook-offs, raffles, and silent auctions — along with a donation from the company — Monty and his family visited Hawaii this spring. Monty hiked to a waterfall, built sandcastles, spotted a whale from the beach and was able to escape the everyday challenges of his illness.
“The generous people who organize and attend the UCA events that benefit Make-A-Wish can feel really good about bringing hope, strength and joy to seriously ill children in Illinois," said Wande Olude, associate gift officer with Make-A-Wish Illinois.
UniCarriers employees were almost as excited about the trip as Monty, and held a send-off party at the company’s Marengo facility. The family toured the facility in their personalized UCA production jumpsuits, and Monty received a ton of cool gifts and was presented with a Certified Master Builder Certificate by UCA President, James J. Radous III.
“Monty captured the hearts of everyone at UniCarriers,” said Radous. “We are proud and happy to help fulfill his wish. UniCarriers may be a global brand, but we live and work right here in McHenry County and it’s important to be a reliable member of our community.”
UCA’s participation in Make-A-Wish Illinois is part of a 15-year heritage of actively supporting local charities, donating more than $350,000 to charities serving McHenry County and the greater Chicago area.
